Atlantic Prevention Resources Executive Director Named
United Way Partner Agency Executive Director of the Year

Galloway—Dr. Robert Zlotnick, executive director of Atlantic Prevention Resources, received United Way of Atlantic County’s Henry J. Remeis Partner Agency Executive Director of the Year award at United Way’s 2004 Campaign Kick-Off Celebration at Trump Marina Hotel Casino on September 22.

The award is named after a former United Way associate executive director, Henry J. Remeis, who started his 11-year run in 1973. Remeis always handled his responsibilities with care and distinction. The award is given annually to a United Way-partner agency executive director who provides demonstrated evidence of good agency management, leadership with peers and support of United Way. The executive directors from United Way’s 35 partner agencies choose the award recipient.

“Bob earned this award with his contagious enthusiasm, good rapport with his staff, and outstanding support of United Way,” said John Emge, United Way of Atlantic County executive director. “His leadership and energy will serve him well in his newest role as chair of the 2004 United Way-partner agency campaign.”

As APR’s employee campaign chair in 2003, Zlotnick challenged his staff with an ambitious goal that was nearly twice the agency’s previous totals. If they reached the goal, Zlotnick would shave his hair off. He was forced to honor this challenge when his enterprising staff procured last-minute checks from members of the agency’s Board of Trustees to meet the goal.

Zlotnick has worked in the field of substance abuse prevention, education and treatment for 15 years. He has directed Atlantic Prevention Resources, Atlantic County’s foremost professional substance abuse prevention agency, for more than 9 years. In 2001, he earned a Doctorate in Psychoeducational Processes from Temple University. He also served on the Prevention Subcommittee of the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and as President of the Board of the Northfield Education Foundation.

Zlotnick has also been an active advocate for community change. In 1996 he began a boycott that ultimately led to Shore Mall establishing a smoke free policy. In 1997 he was instrumental in the removal of cigarette billboards that were in close proximity to St. Peter’s School in Pleasantville. He produced a video documentary in 2001 about a local boy who was killed by a drunk driver. In 2002, he produced a second video about John Elliott and the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers, which won two national juried awards.

Zlotnick relocated from Philadelphia nine years ago and currently resides in Northfield with his wife of 11 years, Julianne, and their two sons, Jake and Ben. Zlotnick is a board member of Congregation Beth Israel and plays on the championship-winning softball team.

Atlantic Prevention Resources is the only professional agency in Atlantic County whose sole mission is the prevention of the harm caused by substance abuse. If you would like more information about APR, please call (609) 272-0101.
