United Way’s Success By 6® Hosts Immunization Awareness Event

July 22, 2004~ Success By 6 ®, an initiative of United Way of Atlantic County, will host an Immunization Awareness event at the Shore Mall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 31. In anticipation of National Immunization Awareness Month in August, Success By 6 will distribute a brochure that outlines important contact information for receiving immunizations and contains a convenient schedule of immunizations for children from birth to 6 years of age. A school nurse will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to discuss the importance of immunizations and answer questions from parents. The day’s events will also include coloring activities for children and a drawing for family-oriented prizes.

Children are required by law to have all of their age-appropriate vaccinations by the time they enter school. While Atlantic County’s immunization rate is improving, at least 25 percent of the County’s children still lack one or more of the vaccines recommended by age 2. This event can help alleviate some of the worry and confusion parents may have regarding the safety and necessity of immunizations.

Success By 6 is a nationally-recognized, community-based private and public collaboration created by United Way that is dedicated to addressing the critical issues that face children from infancy to 6 years of age. Atlantic County’s Success By 6 is addressing five top issues affecting children in our community: age-appropriate immunizations, early literacy, pediatric dental issues, parenting skills and pre-natal care.

Success By 6 welcomes new partners and participants. For further information, contact Alice Woods, United Way of Atlantic County’s Director of Community Initiatives, at (609) 404-4483 ext. 19.
