Volunteers Make Real Community Impact
During United Way’s 2nd Annual Day of Caring

For the second year, employees at Resorts Atlantic City -Fran Ianello, Marcus Dobberfuhl,
Kevin Brown, Ed Mitchell -
helped the Literacy Volunteers with painting projects.

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, nearly 30 volunteers participated in community service projects across Atlantic County as part of United Way’s 2nd Annual Day of Caring on April 22. United Way's Volunteer Center of Atlantic County organized the Day of Caring, which is sponsored by the AtlantiCare LifeCenter.

“Volunteers are a critical resource for our community,” said John Emge, Executive Director of United Way of Atlantic County. “United Way is a volunteer-driven organization, but it is events like Day of Caring that truly engage the community to learn more about how United Way contribution dollars are used.”

A number of area businesses and organizations provided employees with a paid day to volunteer as a group, as well as the opportunity to give back to the community, network with colleagues in a non-office setting and practice new forms of teamwork.

Employees from AtlantiCare sorted cans at the Community Food Bank. For the second year, employees at Resorts Atlantic City helped the Literacy Volunteers with landscaping and painting projects. Sun National Bank employees painted at the Atlantic County Women’s Center. A staff member from Community Mediation Services (a United Way-Partner agency), employees from Douglass Industries, and United Way staff spruced up the landscape and painted at Career Opportunity Development, Inc. Additional United Way staff served lunch to the seniors at BERON Jewish Older Adult Services. At Covenant House New Jersey, South Jersey Gas employees pitched in to paint the residence hall.

Before jumping to work, many volunteers first gathered at the Community Food Bank for a Welcome Breakfast at 9 a.m. and were treated to a continental breakfast donated by Krispy Kreme.
United Way’s Volunteer Center of Atlantic County promotes volunteer opportunities in Atlantic County for over 100 local, not-for-profit organizations. The Volunteer Center also supports the Atlantic County Probation Department’s court-ordered community service program. United Way’s Volunteer Center of Atlantic County is an accredited member of The Points of Light Foundation Volunteer Center National Network.
