United Way of Atlantic County Auction for the Community
a Display of Corporate Commitment

Galloway, November 13 —United Way of Atlantic County’s second annual Auction for the Community, held today from 6 to 10 p.m. at Seaview Marriott Resort & Spa, offered attendees an evening of sophisticated entertainment, as well as an opportunity for businesses and individuals to participate in an engaging fundraising activity.

“Special events contributed more than $115,000 toward United Way’s 2003 campaign total,” said Charlie Biscieglia, United Way of Atlantic County Board President and auction committee chairman. “This year our goal is to raise $50,000 from this event alone. Thanks to the overwhelming support from the Atlantic County business community, especially from Auction sponsors Lenox and South Jersey Industries, we are well on our way to a successful event.”

Lenox donated thousands of dollars in fine merchandise to the Auction, including a limited-edition vase for every attendee and centerpieces. In addition, United Way auctioned three sets of dinnerware, an elegant floor lamp, rare bowls and other collectibles donated by Lenox. South Jersey Industries provided hours of volunteer staff time on behalf of the Auction and printed the tickets and event brochure.

Lenox and South Jersey Industries both called upon their vendors and business associates to donate items and services to the Auction. All this generosity and effort is in addition to running United Way workplace campaigns!

Doug and Linda Keefe, owners of Beachcomber Collectibles, spent hours helping to plan the event, as well as professionally-displaying many of the donated items. JT Sports owner John Taube, also on the event planning committee, donated numerous pieces of sports memorabilia for the auction.

Nearly 100 other local businesses also demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the Atlantic County community in supporting the Auction. Boscov’s printed a portion of the Auction program booklet at no charge. The Art of Flowers in Atlantic City provided floral arrangements in the Lenox-donated centerpieces. The Shark 103.7 FM radio held on-air auctions in promotion of the event. The Richard Stockton College, Spirit Airlines, Showboat and Harrah’s, Trump Taj Mahal, Art Handler’s Appliance Center, Saxon & Wakefield teak furniture, Ole Hansen & Sons, Skyline Security, and a number of golf courses, restaurants, spas, and other retailers donated valuable items for the Auction. Dozens of celebrities answered the call for donations, as well. Don Tollefson, sports anchor for the “FOX Ten o’clock News,” lent his enthusiasm to the event as guest auctioneer.

With approximately 40 live auction items and 100 silent auction items, the Auction for the Community offered something for everyone. For the $60 admission price, attendees were treated to an elaborate hors d’oeuvres buffet, an open bar and a generous gift bag, including the platinum-trimmed Lenox vase.
