UNITED WAY SCORES WITH OCEAN CITY FC GOAL CLUB

Ocean City, N.J., - The United Ways of Atlantic and Cape May Counties have recently teamed up with the hottest sports franchise in the region to raise funds for United Way’s leading early childhood initiative, Success By 6®.

The United Way/Ocean City FC Goal Club, presented by the United Ways of Atlantic and Cape May Counties and the Ocean City FC Nor’easters PDL Soccer Team, pairs community–minded businesses with the opportunity to improve the quality of life for children right here in Atlantic and Cape May Counties. The concept is simple. For every goal scored by the Nor’easters in the regular season, each designated sponsor will contribute $20 to Success By 6®. Field signage and media placement in the Ocean City Sentinel is included with the sponsorship. The season averages around 30 goals, and to date $600 has been raised in just 7 games. The 2010 season will continue through July at Carey Stadium in Ocean City.

Success By 6® is the largest early childhood movement in the country. It is the most recognized United Way initiative, and has been active in Atlantic County since 1995. Success By 6® is a collaboration of more than 25 partners in the business, labor, education, recreation, health, social service and government sectors dedicated to advancing opportunities for preschool children in our community. The initiative works to address five key issues: age-appropriate immunizations, early literacy, pediatric dental issues, parenting skills and pre-natal care. Success By 6® has been adopted around the country as the community model for targeting child health issues. The programs of Success By 6® include: Raising a Reader, a take-home book bag program; First Book, a library building program for low-income families; Born Learning, an awareness campaign aimed at creating early learning opportunities for young children; Healthy Smiles, a pediatric dental program; along with a kindergarten readiness calendar that is distributed to local pre-schoolers.

The Ocean City Football Club is a soccer franchise based in Ocean City, New Jersey that competes in the Premier Development League (PDL), the top men’s amateur league in North America. The PDL is considered the 4th level of soccer in the United States below Major League Soccer, and the United Soccer League’s First and Second Divisions. Players have the ability to compete in the PDL throughout the summer months in a professionalized setting while maintaining their collegiate eligibility. The league is the proving ground for players that aspire to reach the highest levels of the game, while providing affordable family entertainment to the Ocean City community. The Nor'easters play all their home fixtures at Carey Stadium, located at 6th street and the Boardwalk in Ocean City.
