UNITED WAY’S 15TH ANNUAL SUN NATIONAL BANK GOLF & SPORTING CLAYS INVITATIONAL SET FOR OCTOBER 1

Honoring the Men & Women of the U.S Military, Past and Present

Galloway, N.J., - United Way of Atlantic County today announced a date for their signature fall fundraiser, the Sun National Bank Golf & Sporting Clays Invitational. The event will take place Friday, October 1, 2010 at Red Wing Sporting Clays Range in Pomona and Seaview, A Dolce Resort, in Galloway. Proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and services of United Way of Atlantic County. The event is presented by The Press of Atlantic City.

The daylong Invitational, which pairs a trip to the sporting clays range with a full round of golf, has served as one of the area’s most unique charity sporting events since its inception in 1996. To date, the event has raised nearly $1.1 million for the community and continues to draw sporting enthusiasts from around the region. The Thomas J. Kuhar Founder’s Award is also presented during the event to recognize a local individual or organization for an exceptional commitment to serving the community.

“This year in particular is very special,” said Thomas Kuhar, event chair and founder. “We are entering our 15th year and we wanted to recognize the incredible individuals in our community, our family members, friends and neighbors that have served, or are currently serving our country. This award goes beyond just one person. We are highlighting the exceptional service of our U.S. Armed Forces and the importance of their work both here in our community and around the world. We are truly honored to have Air Force Col. Gina Grasso, commander of the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) accept this prestigious award.

An exciting new addition to this year’s format is the opportunity to sponsor a member of the U.S. Military to participate in the full day’s activities. Platinum sponsors of the event will have the option of inviting either a local military person of their choosing or an active member that is currently serving at one of the military bases in our region, the National Guard or Reserves that United Way will coordinate on the company’s behalf. These individuals will be recognized during the dinner reception as part of the presentation of the Founder’s Award.

“We are extremely fortunate to have the support of our community rallied around such an important annual event for United Way.” said Tom Geisel, president and CEO, Sun National Bank, and John Emge, Executive Director of United Way of Atlantic County in a joint statement. “It is through the generosity of businesses and individuals that support us that we are able to celebrate 15 years of success. What better way to honor our community than to recognize those that serve or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.”

The full day schedule features a morning session of 50 sporting clays at the legendary Red Wing Sporting Clays Range in Port Republic, and an afternoon of 18 holes of golf at Seaview Golf Resort in Galloway. The package includes transportation to Red Wing, course fees, range balls and tee package and/or shotgun and ammunition, on-course refreshments, breakfast and lunch, along with tickets to the dinner reception and a tournament gift. The dinner reception will begin around 6 pm.

Additionally, a variety of options exist for those with limited time schedules. An afternoon-only session is available and features a 100-Bird Sporting Clays Event or an afternoon 18-Hole Golf round. Participants in the 100-Bird Sporting Clays Event may register their targets with the NSCA at no additional charge.
