Six steps to a personal ask:

STEP 1: Set the Stage

  • Learn as much as you can about UW and its agencies
  • Make your own guideline gift

STEP 2: Introduction

  • Be positive and confident -- be yourself
  • Share information on UW and funded programs/services

STEP 3: Initiate the Request

  • Tailor your approach to the individual
  • Highlight the positive points of supporting UW’s Community Impact Fund
  • Stress payroll deduction, guideline gift and increasing
  • Mention Campaign-wide Incentive and other drawings

STEP 4: Answer Any Questions

  • Emphasize the positive – respond to the negative
  • Turn excuses into positive reasons for giving

STEP 5: Ask for the Pledge

  • Personally ask for a guideline gift
  • Collect the signed pledge form and Campaign-wide Incentive ticket(s)

STEP 6: Close the Solicitation

  • Make the donor feel good about his/her gif
  • Say “Thanks!”
